Recipe of curry leaves citron leaves chuteny (veppilakkatti chammanthy വേപ്പിലക്കട്ടി)
Vepilakatti chammanthi traditional Kerala Palakadan Agrahar side dish for lunch.
Vepilakatti (വേപ്പിലക്കട്ടി) chammanthi is one of the authentic and tradtional recipe of Kerala. It is a healthy nutrious spicy chutney made up of lime leaves (citron leaves naranga ila നാരങ്ങയില),curry leaves,red chillies,tamarind,hing and salt. This tastes authentic wiith Kerala rice and curd. It helps in stomach upset,digestion. This is the perfect combination with our breakfast items idli,dosa etc.,
Ingredients to prepare veppikatti chammanthi balls.
- Lemon Leaves – 200 gms
- Curry Leaves – 1/2 Cup
- Red Chillies – 15 to 20
- Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp
- Tamarind – 1 one small ball
- Salt to taste
- Coriander seeds and aymodhakam are optional
Preparation method of chammanthi
- Tear the lime leaves and remove the middle stem or vein.
- Dry roast both leaves,chillies,corainder,asafoetida or kayam,salt,tamarind and grind coarslely . Do not add water.
- Make them into small ball store them in an airtight container.
- To get long life keep in refrigerator upto 6 months it can keep in out side
